Kraken Trading Journal Integration

Connect Kraken to Tiltless with a read-only API key. Pull spot, margin, and futures fills into one journal. Track fees, staking rewards, and multi-currency PnL without granting trading permissions.

Read-Only API Connection

Tiltless connects to Kraken using an API key with query-only permissions. No trading, withdrawal, or staking permissions are required.

To connect: go to Kraken > Settings > API > Create API Key. Under permissions, enable 'Query Funds', 'Query Open Orders & Trades', and 'Query Closed Orders & Trades.' Leave all other permissions disabled. Paste the key and private key into Tiltless.

What Tiltless Tracks from Kraken

Tiltless pulls the execution data that matters for post-trade review across Kraken's product types.

  • Spot fills: price, volume, side, timestamp, and trading pair in any quote currency
  • Margin fills: leverage, borrow cost, and realized PnL per position
  • Futures fills: contract details, funding payments, and settlement data
  • Staking reward distributions tracked as separate journal entries
  • Fees per fill with maker/taker breakdown and volume tier detection
  • Multi-currency support: PnL in native quote currency plus USD equivalent

Fee Tracking and Volume Tiers

Kraken uses a volume-based fee tier system where your 30-day trading volume determines maker and taker rates. Tiltless tracks the actual fee paid on every fill so you can see how fees affect your edge.

For active traders approaching a tier boundary, your journal shows cumulative fee drag — making it easier to decide whether increasing volume to reach the next tier is worth the cost.

Staking Rewards in Your Journal

Kraken staking rewards appear as separate entries in your journal. This gives you a complete picture of returns: trading PnL plus yield from staked assets.

Rewards are tracked with the asset, amount, and timestamp so you can reconcile against Kraken's staking history and include yield in your overall portfolio performance review.

CSV Import Alternative

Export your Kraken trade history from History > Export and upload the CSV to Tiltless. Kraken's export includes trades, ledger entries, and staking events.

CSV import is useful for backfilling trades from before your API connection, or for a one-time import without ongoing sync.

A Review Workflow for Kraken Traders

Kraken traders often hold spot positions, use margin selectively, and stake idle assets. The review workflow should account for all three revenue streams and the costs attached to each.

  • Separate spot PnL from margin PnL — leverage amplifies both wins and mistakes
  • Track borrow costs on margin positions as a direct drag on profitability
  • Include staking yield in your total return calculation, not just trading PnL
  • Review fee tier proximity: are you close to a breakpoint that would lower costs?
  • Compare performance across fiat pairs — does your edge hold in EUR, GBP, and USD markets equally?

Security and Permissions

API credentials are encrypted at rest and never leave Tiltless infrastructure. The key only requires query permissions — the most restrictive access level for trade data on Kraken.

You can revoke the API key from Kraken at any time under Settings > API. Tiltless will stop syncing and retain the data already imported.
